Even More Photos From The Avengers!

Source: Entertainment Weekly September 29, 2011

It's Avengers day! We've posted the EW cover, new photos, and character headshots, and now we've got four more scans of photos that are featured in the magazine article.

Written and directed by Joss Whedon, Marvel's The Avengers stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson. It hits theaters on May 4.

New Avengers Character Details

Source: EW September 29, 2011

There's been an onslaught of The Avengers news today with the EW cover, photos, more photos and character headshots. Now EW offers a look inside the magazine with character profiles on each member of the team, some of which tease important plot details.

“He’s the most – guy, but a total loose cannon," says Mark Ruffalo of playing Dr. Bruce Banner/The Hulk, "No one wants to set him off except for Iron Man... who just wants to see him pop. It’s funny, there’s a really cool dynamic between Tony Stark and Banner. Banner actually enjoys it, and finds it really refreshing. They’re a lot alike in a strange way. They’re both these kind of scientists who are mavericks, kind of renegades. Banner, for all his mild-mannered mythology, he’s still the dude who was testing some pretty crazy s–t on himself, so he has that rebel streak in him.”

It is also stated that Banner wants to be a member of the team, but that rest of the group considers him a liability. As for keeping the Hulk in check, the duty seems to fall to Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye, who will also share a backstory with Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow.

“[Hawkeye is] the only one who can really take down The Hulk with his tranq tip arrows," says Renner, adding "...The only sort of thing I cling to is the relationship of past experiences with Scarlett’s character, with them both being human. ”

Though Captain America was the hero we saw most recently on the big screen, Chris Evans says that things have changed between his solo film and The Avengers and that we'll see a darker take on Steve Rogers.

“It’s just about him trying to come to terms with the modern world," Evans explains, "You’ve got to imagine, it’s enough of a shock to accept the fact that you’re in a completely different time, but everybody you know is dead. Everybody you cared about.. [E]verybody he went to battle with, all of his brothers in arms, they’re all dead. He’s just lonely. I think in the beginning it’s a fish out of water scene, and it’s tough. It’s a tough pill for him to swallow."

Though the team is going head-to-head with Tom Hiddleston's Loki, Chris Hemsworth reveals that his Thor won't necessarily be the most at odds with his half-brother.

“I think [Thor's] motivation is much more of a personal one," he says, "in the sense that it’s his brother that is stirring things up. Whereas everyone else, it’s some bad guy who they’ve gotta take down. It’s a different approach for me, or for Thor... I’ve been frustrated with my brothers at times, or family, but I’m the only one who is allowed to be angry at them. There’s a bit of that.”

Wanted 2 Moving Forward

Source: Derek Haas , The Wrap September 27, 2011

It appears that Wanted 2 is finally moving forward at Universal Pictures. Derek Haas, who, with writing partner Michael Brandt, adapted the 2008 original, tweeted the following this morning:

Michael and I were just hired by Uni to write WANTED 2.

Following the post, The Wrap caught up with Haas, who said that the film is currently without a director but that the storyline will, "take off after the events of what just happened. Pick up Wesley a few years later and go back in for another round."

Though unconfirmed, the implication is that James McAvoy will return to the role of Wesley Gibson, an accountant-turned-assassin. The original also starred Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie, but at least the latter does not plan on returning.

"Being dead makes it difficult," she said last year, "They were [trying to bring me back], but I kind of feel like if I die in a movie, I should die actually... It would just be doing the exact same thing in another movie, so it's not that interesting to me."

Check back soon for updates on Wanted 2 as they become available.

UPDATE: Mr. Haas has tweeted the following update:

To answer 2 questions I've been asked today: our draft of W2 will be Fox-less and Loom-less.

Fox, of course, refers to Jolie's character and the Loom to the mystical device that dispensed assassination targets in the original.

Watch the 1911 Trailer

Source: iTunes Movie Trailers September 20, 2011

The trailer for Jackie Chan's latest, 1911, has debuted at iTunes Movie Trailers and is viewable in the player below.

At the beginning of the 20th century, China is in a state of crisis. The country is split into warring factions, the citizens are starving, and recent political reforms have made matters worse, not better. The ruling Qing Dynasty, led by a seven-year-old emperor and his ruthless mother, Empress Dowager Longyu (Joan Chen), is completely out of touch after 250 years of unquestioned power.

With ordinary citizens beginning to revolt openly, the Qing Dynasty has created a powerful, modern army (the "New Army") to quash any rebellion. But weapons are expensive, and desperate for cash, the Qing leaders are trading anything they can get their hands on with foreign countries... and selling China's future in the process. Huang Xing (Chan) has recently returned from Japan, where he has studied the art of modern warfare. When he finds his country falling apart, he feels he has no choice but to pick up the sword, leading an increasingly desperate series of violent rebellions against the powerful Qing Dynasty and the New Army- several with tragic consequences.

Sigourney Weaver Talks Avatar 2 and Ghostbusters 3

Source: Silas Lesnick September 16, 2011

Next week, Sigourney Weaver stars opposite Taylor Lautner in the John Singleton thriller Abduction. ComingSoon.net caught up to the actress at today's press junket and, while we'll have a full interview with her about that film posted shortly, she also offered brief updates on two highly-anticipated franchise sequels.

"Don't worry, I will be back," she said of Avatar 2, confirming the hint that she dropped nearly a year ago, "Jim [Cameron] says no one ever dies in science fiction. He's told me the stories for the next two movies and I have to say that they're absolutely wonderful and there's a real treat in store. Now we just have to make them."

While there's not yet a specific start date, Weaver reiterated the plans to shoot sometime next year as well as a production schedule that will have Avatar 2 and 3 shot back-to-back.

On the Ghostbusters 3 front, things are looking a bit more uncertain. Despite recent reports from Dan Aykroyd that the project would move forward in early 2012, Weaver says that it's been some time since her preliminary discussions about making a return appearance as Dana Barrett.

"I have yet to read the script," she said, "I've had a couple of calls and I know they're rewriting and all I said was that I hope my son, Oscar, has grown up to be a Ghostbuster and Ivan Reitman said yes. Beyond that, I have no idea. I hope it comes together, but we already did two wonderful films and, if we have to let this one go, that's fine."

Check back soon for the full interview and catch Abduction in theaters on September 23rd.

Footage From Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Screened!

Source: Thomas Tinneny September 14, 2011

During the last week in August, a blog called Mouth Taped Shut started to make the rounds and as more and more official-looking posts went up, it became obvious it was part of the marketing for Sony's upcoming The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, directed by David Fincher.

On Wednesday, September 14, Mouth Taped Shut hosted a quick look at the movie prior to nationwide screenings of Screen Gems' Straw Dogs and ComingSoon.net was invited to check it out.

SPOILER WARNING!

The footage shown was apart of an 8-minute long trailer, which opens on a snow-covered house with a Christopher Plummer voice-over. Plummer plays Henrik Vanger and describes how he has received a package, and we cut to Vanger talking on a phone as the camera pans down of the package. It is a picture of a flower. Cut to a motorcycle roar, followed by the motorcycle zooming across a street near a body of water. A woman dressed all in black walks through a building filled with people and office cubicles. The voice-over describes an investigator as being "different" and "the best they have."

We then see a quick cut of Rooney Mara's Lisbeth Salander, sitting reluctantly at a large table being interviewed by two men, being asked questions about Daniel Craig's Mikael Blomkvist, as she describes his daily routine. She is then asked to describe things that were not reported and she begins to talk about his sexual relationship and what he is and is not doing enough of.

It then cuts to Vanger talking with Blomkvist about investigating the murder of his niece forty years earlier, and he explains that Blomkvist will go under the guise of writing an autobiography and will interview his family while trying to solve this murder.

Cut to a flashback of a parade then to a bad car crash pileup, which Vanger's voice-over describes as having "nothing and everything to do with the missing wife." We then see Salander walking through a street and then down an escalator--she is different, pierced, a visible outcast--then we see Salander in a room with a bearded man behind a desk; he is direct in a creepy sort of way and boasts she needs to be more sociable and makes sexual advances at her, implying that she give him oral sex.

Cut to another flashback with Blomkvist and Vanger at what looks to be a lake dock. Vanger explains that someone on the island killed her and has started taunting him by sending birthday gifts. These gifts are unique in that only he and his niece know of them.

Blomkvist is interviewing the lead investigator and members of Vanger's family, as a voice-over explains that he'll be aided by the girl who did the background check on him. We then see him knocking on Salander's door and letting himself in. In the background, we see Salander's lover and she's instructed by Blomkvist to have the girl leave.

Cut to Salander's having a discussion with an officer (Alan Dale) who inquires about what she just ate and how gruesome the upcoming moments will be. We see crime scene photos of dead women tied up with rope and without clothes, and we hear a voice-over of how the women all have names from the Old Testament and we are lead to believe this murder investigation won't be limited to one missing woman.

We are then given rapid moments from the film. This felt very similar to the pace of the trailer and I wouldn't be surprised if it was. These rapid images begin to get faster and eventually lead up to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo logo followed by the release date of December 21, 2011.

As far as characters go, Rooney Mara is unrecognizable. She is pure Goth with her piercings and tattoos, and her mannerisms clearly show how uncomfortable she is around supposed everyday people. She clearly is a social outcast but shows glimpses of fight.

Daniel Craig comes off as a man with know-how. He is always prim and proper but clearly damaged from a past investigation, clearly experienced and good at what he does. As this trailer progresses, he begins to clearly see that this investigation isn't very simple and that he may be in over his head.

Christopher Plummer is shown-off the most, taking the lead on the trailer's narrative. He seems clear, direct and to the point when describing the investigation to Craig. No real signs of aging with the 81-year-old actor as he seems to be very on top of his game. Stellan Skarsgård can be seen spread out through the trailer without any major speaking parts, most of the visuals implying he may be hiding something.

The trailer is cut very tight and does a good job of setting up the film - typical Fincher tone, pace, picture color and camera framing are all over the trailer. The flashbacks did not seem out of place and had visuals that reminded me of Zodiac in that all images seemed to be within a certain time period. What I believe to be Trent Reznor's score plays and is very much in line with what can be heard on the film's official website.

Back to the Future Part II's Nike MAGs Hit eBay!

Source: Nike September 8, 2011

Following yesterday's tease, Nike has officially announced today that 1500 pairs of Back to the Future Part II's MAG shoes will be auctioned off starting tonight at NikeMAG.eBay.com to benefit The Michael J. Fox foundation:

The NIKE MAG is no longer the "greatest shoe never made." The mythical shoe that originally captured the imagination of audiences in Back to the Future II is being released – and they're here to help create a future without Parkinson's disease.

1500 pairs of the 2011 NIKE MAG will be auctioned on eBay with all net proceeds going directly to The Michael J. Fox Foundation. Each day for the duration of the ten-day auction, one hundred and fifty pairs of the 2011 NIKE MAG shoes will be made available via eBay's Fashion Vault. The auction starts September 8, 8:30PM PST, and will end September 18. Thanks to a previous 50 million dollar match given to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, all donations will be matched, effectively doubling the contributions from the auction.

The original NIKE MAG was worn by the Back to the Future character Marty McFly, played by Michael J. Fox, in the year 2015. It came alive, lit up and formed to Marty's foot. The 2011 NIKE MAG shoe was designed to be a precise replica of the original from Back to the Future II. The aesthetic is an exact match, down to the contours of the upper, the glowing LED panel and the electroluminescent NIKE in the strap. The 2011 NIKE MAG illuminates with the pinch of the "ear" of the high top, glowing for five hours per charge.
