The Dark Knight Rises in Pittsburgh

Source: Pittsburgh Businesstimes , YouTube July 28, 2011

As reported last night, The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled to start filming in Pittsburgh through August 20th. Today, Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale greeted the city with a special press conference.

"It's a very beautiful city on a very impressive scale and that hasn't lost its human scale," Nolan is quoted as having said at Pittsburgh Businesstimes, "That is very impressive and very hard to find... When you're making a large-scale action film that has to showcase the vitality and size of a large American city but also involves a certain amount of disruption to that city in order to make the action credible on screen there needs to be a lot of cooperation from that city."

The article goes on to say that, while Pittsburgh will be standing in as Gotham City, some of the famous landmarks that will remain include Heinz Field and Carnegie Mellon University. The former will be featured in a football game scene that is said to include a large crowd. There is also shooting scheduled to occur at a home in Lawrenceville.

Another minor detail that has been confirmed is that we'll be seeing Gotham City in the winter. Part of the shoot includes staging fake snowfall in the Downtown area.

The Dark Knight Rises will hit theaters on July 20, 2012.

Carnegie Mellon will once again play host to Hollywood, when several scenes for a major motion picture by Warner Bros., currently using the working title “Magnus Rex,” are filmed outside of the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) in late July, and inside and outside of the Mellon Institute in early August. Carnegie Mellon is working closely with the production company to ensure that the university and its students, faculty and staff will benefit from the movie-making experience with minimal disruption to normal operations.

Here's the skinny on the filming dates, the scenes and parking and traffic restrictions.

Scenes outside the Fifth Ave. entrance of Mellon Institute include a standoff between two rivals that escalates into a riot. Daniel Craig on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Source: Esquire July 7, 2011

Esquire talked to Daniel Craig about starring in David Fincher's upcoming The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

"It's as adult as you can possibly make it. This is adult drama," he said. "I grew up, as we f*cking all did, watching 'The Godfather' and that, movies that were made for adults. And this is a $100 million R-rated movie. Nobody makes those anymore. And Fincher, he's not holding back. They've given him free rein. He showed me some scenes recently, and my hand was over my mouth, going, Are you f*cking serious?"

Craig added that it's not all about what you do get so see. "It's not that he simply showed me footage that was horribly graphic. It was stuff that was happening, or had happened. And somehow you don't see it... There's more than one way to sense violence... Much more powerful ways than seeing it step-by-step."

The movie is the first film in Columbia Pictures' three-picture adaptation of Stieg Larsson's literary blockbuster "The Millennium Trilogy."

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo opens in theaters on December 21. Before that release, you'll be able to see Craig in Cowboys & Aliens on July 29, followed by Dream House on September 30.
