Columbia Pictures has set a December 10 release date for thriller The Tourist, starring Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, Paul Bettany, Rufus Sewell, Timothy Dalton and Steven Berkoff.

Directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck from a script by Julian Fellowes, Christopher McQuarrie and Jeffrey Nachmanoff, the film revolves around Frank (Depp), an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise (Jolie) is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Venice, Frank pursues a potential romance but soon finds himself the pursued as he and Elise are caught in a whirlwind of intrigue and danger.

The other two films scheduled for Dec. 10 are
The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Fighter.

Meet 'Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' Star Rooney Mara

Before landing the dream role of Lisbeth Salander, Mara starred in 'Nightmare on Elm Street' remake and more.

Get used to hearing the name Rooney Mara.
After an extensive search that reportedly focused on A-list names like Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman, "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" director David Fincher selected Mara to play the role of dark and damaged Lisbeth Salander. While hardly a newcomer to Hollywood — she starred in this year's "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and her sister is "Iron Man 2" star Kate — Mara remains largely unknown to the public.

That's all about to change. "Dragon Tattoo" is based on the first of Stieg Larsson's best-selling crime novels, a trilogy that has been published in 44 countries and has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. Anticipation for Fincher's adaptation, slated to get an Oscar-friendly December 2011 release, is already running high, with every casting rumor — Kristen Stewart as Salander? Ellen Page? — getting wide media attention.
So just who is Mara?

Your Complete Guide to Upcoming Alien Invasion Movies

by Peter Hall Aug 18th 2010 // 10:31PM
I'm not sure what recent film announcement it was that triggered CinematicalEditor-in-Chief Erik Davis to note that there seemed to be a growing number of movies about aliens getting the green light from Hollywood, but until he asked me to make a guide compiling them all together, I hadn't quite taken note of the trend. But now that I have assembled the whole batch in one place, it's pretty clear that Hollywood has been sitting on a fear that our little blue planet is going to be overtaken by little green men. I guess making a bunch of movies about the hypothetical is the only catharsis they can get.

That, or, and this is the more likely scenario, alien invasions are always a great excuse to blow things up and film it. I just hope one of the below films does contain a UFO dishing out a bigger blast than the one that topples NYC in
Independence Day. I think such a sight has been a long time overdue.

Anyways, I present to you

Fair Game Trailer Online

Doug Liman’s drama gets a promo

Fair Game Trailer Online
The full trailer for director Doug Liman’s latest, fact-based drama Fair Game, has arrived online.
In Law & Order, ripped-from-the-headlines style, the film follows what happened to Valerie Plame (Naomi Watts), a CIA agent who was outed by her own government when her ambassador husband Joe Wilson (Sean Penn) spoke out about the lies being spun around the Iraq War.
Plame’s name was leaked to the press and, despite the likes of Karl Rove and his ilk trying to cover their tracks, the truth eventually came out and several hefty White House names landed in trouble for outing a CIA operative.
Our Damo and Sam got a look at the movie at Cannes and their responses were mixed. It sounds like Liman was driven to keep everything as close to factual as possible, which means the pace shifts from a Bourne-style thriller to a more relaxed drama. But now it’s your turn to get a look and tell us whether you think it'll make for good cinema.

Paramount's Future: World War Z, Hansel & Gretel

The folks at The Wrap intercepted a document that is believed to have come internally from Paramount, but the studio's reps are denying it. Regardless, it's a breakdown of all of their projects that are on the table. What works. What doesn't. What's close to shooting. And there's some revealing information inside.

Without a doubt, World War Z is picking up steam finally. According to the document, execs love the new draft by Matt Carnahan. The film is listed as a "priority." Brad Pitt will star, as previously reported.

Hansel & Gretel is another film at the studio that has been on our radar. It's going to be directed by Tommy Wirkola, the man behind Dead Snow. The listing for this one has dropped the "Witch Hunters" subtitle (it was supposed to be Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters). We'll see if that holds. The document says casting talks have begun and production will begin later this year.

If that happens, it'll put Dead Snow 2 on holdHansel & Gretel is also listed as a priority and "on deck."

Under the "in development" column is the just announced 7 Minutes in Heaven film.

New Underworld 4 and Anonymous Release Dates

FOLLOW

August 17, 2010

Sony's Screen Gems has moved back the release date for Underworld 4 from September 23, 2011 to January 20, 2012. Right now, the fourth installment of the franchise has that date to itself.

The 3D sequel is expected to feature Kate Beckinsale back in Selene's skin. Screenwriter John Hlavin previously described the movie as follows: "It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements."

In other Sony release news, the studio has set a March 25, 2011 release for Roland Emmerich's Anonymous.

The film, starring Vanessa Redgrave, David Thewlis and Rhys Ifans, is a political thriller about who actually wrote the plays of William Shakespeare.
